Transferring the domain to SiteGround is very simple. It takes 30 minutes to complete the procedure.
Before initiating the process of transferring the domain to SiteGround, it is very important to change the names servers of your domain in the DNS settings in your domain registrar account.
You need to enter the name servers of SiteGround so that your domain will point to the SiteGround server before initiating the domain transfer process.

Let us start the procedure of how to start the transfer domain to Siteground from Godaddy.
Step 1: Start from Hosting provider
Initially, you need to login to the SiteGround account. You can add the domain you want to transfer to the SiteGround by going to the Add Services tab.
In your hosting account click on the Add Services tab. On this page, you will see a list of services that SiteGround offers to you. Click on the ‘Get’ button which is next to the ‘Domain Transfer’ option.
Step 2: Add the Domain Details to transfer
On the next page, you will see the product info page. On that page enter your domain name and check domain status.
Once you click on the check domain status, the SIteGround will check the status and will send you the information needed for initializing the domain transfer.
To get this going, you need to change the Domain Lock to ‘OFF’ which you will see in the next step.
Step 3: Disable domain lock
Now you need to visit the Godaddy account in which your domain is registered.
Two things you need to do in the Godaddy account are
- Disable the Domain Lock
- Request the EPP code to transfer the domain.
Sign in to your Godaddy account and click on the Manage button which will be right to the Domain in the ‘My products’ page.
On that page, you will find the ‘Domain lock’ option. By default, this button will be toggled to on. Click on that button such that the Domain lock will be ‘OFF’.
You also need to disable the ID protection before transferring the domain, if you have purchased one.
Step 4: Request EPP code for Authorization
Now you need to request the ‘EPP code’ from the Godaddy which you need to enter in the SiteGround Dashboard before requesting the site transfer.
In the manage domain section of Godaddy, you can see and option named ‘Get Authorization Code’ under the Additional Settings.
Click on that. Once you click that, a mail will be sent to your registered email ID.
This is what your email looks like. This email will consist of the EPP code (Authorisation code).
Copy the code to use it later.
Step 5: Add EPP code and Start Domain Transfer
Go back to the SiteGround user area and in that enter the domain name and click on ‘Check Status’. If everything is good you will see the below page.
Under the ‘domain transfer information’ tab, you will see a space for the EPP code. Enter the EPP code here and check the ‘yes’ button next to the email confirmation.
Make sure you have access to the administrator email as you will receive the verification mail through that email.
Step 6: Confirm the Transfer process
Finally, you will receive an mail, in which you will find a verification link. Access the email and click on the link which will open a page shown below.
On that page enter your name and check the terms and conditions tab.
In the ‘Domain name password’ area, enter the EPP code you have received lately and click the ‘Proceed with the transfer’ button.
Requirements for Domain Transfer
Once you click on the Check domain status SiteGround will check a couple of requirements that are.
- The domain name that you have entered should be having active status in the registrar account.
- Your domain name expiration date should be more than 15 days from this day. But most of the domain registrants complete this transfer process within 3 to 4 hours.
- Your domain name must be registered more than 60 days ago before you initiate your domain transfer.
- You must receive the domain’s EPP code from the registrar.
All these requirements are applicable for the gTLDs like .com, .org, .net, .biz, .info. For ccTLDs you will need there are other sets of requirements which you can find in your cPanel.
Once your domain transfer starts, it will take 5 to 7 business days to transfer your domain from Godaddy to SiteGround.
You need to wait until the transfer completes. In the meantime, you cannot change the nameservers pointing to that domain.
Hence you need to update your nameservers beforehand transferring the domain.
